GIF to JPG: Convert Your GIF for Free
GIF to JPG conversion takes a GIF picture and saves it as a JPG file. You do not need an account to start. Upload one image, keep the quality at 80 or change it, and download the result. If your GIF is animated, only the first frame is converted. Results vary with the picture.
- Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted. The result is one still picture.
- Free use is up to 5 MB per image and 30 images per day for each visitor, without an account.
- JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour.

Result
Your JPEG will appear here.
The free web tool takes images up to 5 MB, 30 per day. Signed in, the limit is 10 MB. The image keeps its pixel size unless you choose Make smaller.
Retention: web-tool results are deleted after 10 minutes and no history is kept. API results are kept 1 day on the free plan and 7 days on Starter and Pro (30 days on Business).
No account needed
30 images per day for free, no watermark.
Original size by default
The image is re-encoded at its full pixel size unless you choose Make smaller. Camera and location tags are not copied into the result.
Deleted automatically
Web tool results are removed after 10 minutes.
Privacy: what you submit is used only to make this file. The working copy is deleted when the job ends, the result after 10 minutes. See the privacy policy.
Do this from your code
The same request, built from the input and options above. Create an account to get an API key.
curl -X POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"html":"","output":"pdf","options":{}}'
# returns {"job_id": "...", "status": "queued"}; then poll:
curl https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/jobs/JOB_ID -H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY"Batches
The web tool handles 1 image at a time. The API takes one request per image, so you can script as many as your plan allows.
Retention
Web-tool results are kept 10 minutes; free API results 1 day; Starter and Pro results 7 days; Business 30 days. The web tool allows 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor.
In one sentence
A free online tool that converts a GIF to a JPG using only its first frame, with a quality setting, a background colour for transparent areas and an optional smaller size.
Key facts
- Input: GIF, PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, BMP or TIFF, up to 5 MB in the free tool and 10 MB when signed in, and up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096); the type is read from the file content, and HEIC, SVG, PDF and camera RAW files are not accepted.
- Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted to JPG and the animation is not kept (WebP output or the GIF compressor keeps it); the result panel says how many frames the file had. JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour (white by default).
- In our test a generated 3-frame animated GIF of 480 x 360 px and 45 KB became one 48 KB JPG at quality 80; the test pictures were generated by our scripts.
- The upload is deleted when the job ends and the result after 10 minutes; signed-in users pay 1 credit per image.
- Free without an account: up to 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor, no watermark. Signed in, each render costs 1 credit (100 free credits every month).
- Files are deleted automatically: 10 minutes after conversion without an account, 1 day with a free account.
- Developers can run the same render with POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render and an API key (see the API docs page).
How it works
- Choose the GIF file you want to convert.
- Keep "Convert to" set to JPEG. You can also pick PNG or WebP.
- Set the quality from 1 to 100. The default is 80.
- If your GIF has transparent areas, set the background colour. The default is white, #ffffff.
- Convert the file and download the .jpg result.
Example output
How to convert GIF to JPG
Start with the GIF file on your computer. Choose it with the upload control on this page, and the tool checks the file type, size and pixel count before it sends the image. Keep "Convert to" set to JPEG if you want a .jpg file. Then press the convert button and wait for the result panel.
The downloaded file has the extension .jpg. If you need a different format, you can pick PNG or WebP under "Convert to" instead. The steps are the same for each format.
What GIF to JPG conversion does
This tool is the same converter used on the PNG, JPEG and WebP pages, opened with JPEG as the target. It reads the GIF, decodes the picture and writes a new JPG file. The pixel size stays the same, so a 480 x 360 GIF becomes a 480 x 360 JPG.
A GIF can hold at most 256 colours. Converting to JPG does not add colours. JPEG stores the same picture in a lossy way, which means some detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Flat artwork and text can look cleaner as a GIF or PNG, while photographs usually suit JPG better.
Animated GIF: only the first frame
An animated GIF holds several frames. This tool converts only the first frame, so the result is one still picture. The animation is not kept, and you cannot choose a different frame. A JPG cannot hold an animation. To keep it, choose WebP under Convert to, or use the GIF compressor or the GIF resizer, which keep every frame.
The result panel says "Only the first of N frames was used", so you can see how many frames the file had. In a test, a 3-frame 480 x 360 animated GIF of 45 KB became one 480 x 360 JPG of 48 KB at quality 80. If you need a specific frame, export that frame first in another tool, then convert it here.
Transparent GIF to JPG
A GIF can have transparent pixels. JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter fills those areas with the background colour. The default background is white, #ffffff, and you can change it to any colour you need.
In a test, a transparent 1024 x 1024 GIF logo of 14 KB became a 26 KB JPG with a white background. The same logo with a red background, #ff0000, became a 22 KB JPG. The result panel says when the transparency was filled. If you want to keep transparent areas, use PNG or WebP output instead.
Why people convert GIF to JPG
Some people convert GIF to JPG to get a still photo file that a program, form or website accepts. A JPG is one still picture, so there is no animation to play.
The GIF to JPG converter on this page handles one file at a time. Use it when you want a still JPG from a GIF.
Choosing the JPG quality
Quality sets how much detail JPG keeps. The range is 1 to 100, and the default is 80. Higher numbers keep more detail and make larger files. Lower numbers make smaller files and can show blocky edges on sharp lines or text.
Start with 80 and check the result. If the JPG looks too soft, raise the quality. If the file is larger than you need, lower it a little at a time. Because JPG is lossy, no quality setting returns the exact GIF pixels.
GIF to JPG: file size
Size depends on the picture. In one test, a 480 x 360 animated GIF of 45 KB became a 48 KB JPG at quality 80. The file got larger, so the result is not always smaller.
If the JPG is bigger than you want, lower the quality. You can also use the optional Size setting to make the picture smaller by percent, by longest side or by box. The Size setting never enlarges a picture.
GIF to JPG or GIF to PNG
Choose JPG when the picture is a photograph or has smooth colour changes. Choose PNG when the picture is flat artwork, text or a logo that must keep its edges sharp. PNG is lossless, so it keeps the exact pixels.
WebP is another option under "Convert to". Results vary with the picture, so test each format on your own file and compare the sizes in the result panel. For a GIF that needs transparency, PNG or WebP is a better fit than JPG.
Rotated photos, camera tags and colour
If a photo is stored rotated with an EXIF orientation tag, the converter turns it upright. Camera and location tags, such as EXIF and GPS data, are not copied into the JPG result. You do not need to remove them yourself.
Colour in the result depends on the source GIF. A GIF has a palette of at most 256 colours. The JPG stores the same colours in a lossy way, so small differences can appear. Check the result on your own screen before you use it.
Which files the converter accepts
This tool accepts GIF files as input. The same converter also accepts PNG, JPG (including .jpeg and .jfif), WebP, AVIF, BMP and TIFF. It does not accept SVG, PDF, HEIC or HEIF, BigTIFF, or camera RAW files.
The free web tool accepts up to 5 MB per image. Signed-in users can upload up to 10 MB per image. Pictures can have up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096) per image. Without an account, each visitor can convert 30 images per day. Signed-in users pay 1 credit per image, plus 1 credit for each 5 MB of result after the first 5 MB, and the result must stay under 20 MB. If the result would be larger than 20 MB, the job fails with an "output too large" message instead of giving you a cut-off file.
GIF to JPG from code
The API accepts the raw image bytes as the request body, not JSON or multipart form data. Send a POST to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/image-jobs with a Content-Type such as image/gif for the input. Authenticate with an Authorization Bearer header or an x-api-key header.
For this conversion, set op to image_convert and format to jpeg. Optional settings include quality from 1 to 100, with a default of 80, and background as a hex colour. The response is 202 with a job_id, and you then poll the job until it succeeds or fails. The page shows ready cURL, Node and Python examples below the tool.
Privacy: what happens to your file
Your image is sent to our server. It is not processed in the browser. The conversion uses sharp, which is built on the libvips library. This is ordinary image processing, not artificial intelligence.
The uploaded image is used only to make the result. It is deleted as soon as the job ends, whether it succeeds or fails. The result is deleted after 10 minutes in the free web tool. No history is kept, and download links are short-lived. You must have the right to use the image you upload, as set out in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Questions
Can I convert GIF to JPG for free?
Yes, you can convert GIF to JPG for free on this page. No signup is needed, but anonymous use includes a human check.
What happens to an animated GIF?
Only the first frame is converted, so the result is one still JPG. The animation is not kept. To keep it, choose WebP under Convert to or use the GIF compressor.
Can I choose which frame becomes the JPG?
No, the converter always uses the first frame. To get another frame, export it in another tool first and then convert that file.
Will the JPG still move?
No, a JPG is always a still picture. The result panel tells you how many frames the GIF had.
What happens to a transparent GIF?
The transparent areas are filled with the background colour, which is white by default. You can change the colour to any hex value.
Is GIF to JPG lossless?
No, JPG is lossy, so some detail is discarded. Use PNG if you need the exact pixels kept.
Why is my JPG bigger than the GIF?
JPG stores the picture differently, and some pictures become larger. In one test, a 45 KB animated GIF became a 48 KB JPG at quality 80.
What quality should I use?
Start with the default of 80. Raise it if the picture looks soft, and lower it if the file is too big.
Can I convert GIF to PNG or WebP instead?
Yes, pick PNG or WebP under "Convert to" before you convert. PNG keeps the exact pixels, and WebP is another option to compare.
Will the picture get smaller in pixels?
No, the pixel size stays the same unless you use the optional Size setting. The Size setting never enlarges a picture.
Can I change GIF to JPG or GIF to JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format, so this tool will change a .gif file to JPG, and the file you get ends in .jpg.
How long is my file kept?
The result is deleted after 10 minutes in the free web tool. Your uploaded image is deleted as soon as the job ends.
Can I convert GIF to JPG in code?
Yes, the API takes a POST with the raw image bytes and op set to image_convert with format set to jpeg. The page shows ready cURL, Node and Python examples.
Need this in your app or in bulk?
This tool runs on the same platform as the API, so the same image is one HTTP request from your code. A free account includes 100 credits a month.
