WebP to JPG Converter
Use this free WebP to JPG converter to turn a WebP picture into a JPEG file with the .jpg extension. The tool sends your image to our server, which decodes it and saves it again as a JPEG at the quality you choose. You do not need an account; anonymous use needs a human check.
- Transparent areas are filled with a background colour, because JPEG has no transparency. The default is white.
- The free web tool accepts up to 5 MB per image and 30 images per day per visitor.
- An animated WebP is converted from its first frame only.

Result
Your JPEG will appear here.
The free web tool takes images up to 5 MB, 30 per day. Signed in, the limit is 10 MB. The image keeps its pixel size.
Retention: web-tool results are deleted after 10 minutes and no history is kept. API results are kept 1 day on the free plan and 7 days on Starter and Pro (30 days on Business).
No account needed
30 images per day for free, no watermark.
Original size kept
The image is re-encoded at its full pixel size. Nothing is resized, and camera and location tags are not copied into the result.
Deleted automatically
Web tool results are removed after 10 minutes.
Privacy: what you submit is used only to make this file. The working copy is deleted when the job ends, the result after 10 minutes. See the privacy policy.
Do this from your code
The same request, built from the input and options above. Create an account to get an API key.
curl -X POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"html":"","output":"pdf","options":{}}'
# returns {"job_id": "...", "status": "queued"}; then poll:
curl https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/jobs/JOB_ID -H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY"Batches
The web tool handles 1 image at a time. The API takes one request per image, so you can script as many as your plan allows.
Retention
Web-tool results are kept 10 minutes; free API results 1 day; Starter and Pro results 7 days; Business 30 days. The web tool allows 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor.
In one sentence
A free online tool that converts a WebP image to JPG at the same pixel size, with a quality setting and a background colour for transparent areas.
Key facts
- Input: WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF or BMP, up to 5 MB in the free tool and 10 MB when signed in, and up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096); the type is read from the file content.
- Output: a JPG (JPEG) with the same width and height; quality 1 to 100 (default 80); JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour (white by default); choose PNG on the WebP to PNG page to keep transparency.
- In our test a 22 KB WebP illustration became a 47 KB JPG at quality 80 and a 529 KB WebP photograph became a 543 KB JPG; the test pictures were generated by our scripts.
- An animated WebP is converted from its first frame; the upload is deleted when the job ends and the result after 10 minutes; signed-in users pay 1 credit per image.
- Free without an account: up to 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor, no watermark. Signed in, each render costs 1 credit (100 free credits every month).
- Files are deleted automatically: 10 minutes after conversion without an account, 1 day with a free account.
- Developers can run the same render with POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render and an API key (see the API docs page).
How it works
- Add your WebP file to the tool. The browser checks the file type, size and pixel count before upload.
- Look at the preview and the image size shown by the tool.
- JPEG is already selected. Change the quality only if you want a different balance between file size and detail; the default is 80.
- Start the conversion and wait for the result panel to show the new file.
- Check the file size and use the Download button to save the .jpg file.
Example output
How to convert WebP to JPG
Start by adding your WebP file to the tool. Before the upload begins, the browser checks the file type, the file size and the pixel count, and shows a preview with the image size. This lets you catch a wrong file before you wait for a conversion.
JPEG is already selected as the target, so a basic conversion needs no change to the settings. If you want a smaller or larger file, adjust the quality first. When the job finishes, the result panel shows a preview, the new file size and a Download button for your .jpg file.
If you need a different target, pick PNG or WebP from the list instead. The same steps apply to every target.
- Check the preview before you start.
- Keep the original WebP file in case you need to convert again.
What WebP to JPG conversion does
The conversion decodes your WebP picture and then encodes it again as a JPEG. The work is done on our servers by sharp, an image library built on libvips. It is ordinary image processing, not artificial intelligence, and the picture is not changed by any model.
The picture keeps its width and height in pixels. It is never resized or cropped. A phone photo that is stored rotated is turned upright, while camera and location tags (EXIF and GPS) are not copied into the result.
Because the image is sent to our server, the browser does not process it on your device. JPG and JPEG are the same format, so converting WebP to JPEG works the same way as converting WebP to JPG.
Why people convert WebP to JPG
WebP is not accepted everywhere. Some older software, old email clients and some upload forms still do not accept WebP. This is the usual reason people convert WebP to JPG or to PNG.
MDN reports that WebP is supported by Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari (Safari 14 or later on macOS Big Sur 11 or later). MDN also recommends WebP or AVIF for raster images on the web in general, with PNG or JPEG as fallbacks. If a program you use still rejects WebP, PNG and JPEG have deeper historical support.
- Check whether the program or form lists JPG or JPEG as accepted.
Choosing the JPG quality
The quality setting runs from 1 to 100, and the default is 80. A lower number makes a smaller file with more visible loss. A higher number keeps more detail but makes a larger file.
Start with the default of 80. If the result looks rough, raise the quality and convert again. If the file is still too large, lower it by a few steps.
A WebP that is already lossy has lost some detail before you convert it. Saving it as a JPG removes a little more. Keep the original WebP so you can convert it again with a different setting.
WebP to JPG: file size
Size depends on the picture. In our tests with generated pictures, a 22 KB flat illustration WebP became a 47 KB JPG at quality 80. A 529 KB photograph WebP became a 543 KB JPG at the same quality.
So a JPG is often somewhat larger than the WebP it came from, but much smaller than a PNG of the same picture. Google reports that lossy WebP files are 25 to 34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at an equivalent SSIM quality index (developers.google.com/speed/webp). These are Google's figures, not ours. Our tool saves the same pixels as a JPEG at the quality you pick, so it is not an equal-quality comparison, and your results will vary.
- Convert a sample first to see what size you get.
Transparent WebP to JPG
JPEG cannot store transparency. When you convert a WebP with transparent areas to JPG, the transparent areas are filled with the background colour. The default is white (#ffffff), and you can change it before you convert.
In our test, a 1024 x 1024 pixel logo as a 13 KB WebP became a 25 KB JPG with a white background. Choose the background colour that suits the place where the JPG will be used, such as your page colour or a brand colour.
If you need to keep the transparent areas, do not use JPG. Use the WebP to PNG page instead.
WebP to JPG or WebP to PNG
The WebP to PNG page keeps transparency and is lossless. The file is larger, though. In our tests a 22 KB WebP became a 290 KB PNG, and a 529 KB photograph WebP became a 6.9 MB PNG.
Choose PNG when you need transparency or when you want to avoid further loss. Choose JPG when you need a small file and the program or form asks for JPG. If you are not sure, convert to JPG first and compare the two results.
- PNG is lossless and supports full transparency.
- JPG has no transparency and loses some detail each time it is saved.
Animated WebP files
An animated WebP contains several frames. The converter reads only the first frame, so the result is a still JPG. The animation is not kept.
If you need the animation, keep the animated file as it is. This tool does not create animated files.
- Check the first frame in the preview before you convert.
Other input formats
The tool accepts WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP files. You can convert any of these to PNG, JPEG or WebP.
It does not accept SVG, PDF, TIFF, HEIC or AVIF files. The tool reads the file type from the content, not from the file name. A file with a changed name is read as the format it really is.
Size and file limits
The free web tool accepts up to 5 MB per image and up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096) per image. It allows 30 images per day per visitor. Signed-in users can convert files up to 10 MB per image.
Each conversion uses 1 credit for signed-in users, plus 1 credit for each 5 MB of result after the first 5 MB. If the result would be larger than 20 MB, the job fails with an output too large message, and nothing is cut off. A large photo is usually the reason for that message.
WebP to JPG from code
You can run the same conversion through the API. Send the raw image bytes, not JSON or multipart form data, to the image jobs endpoint. Set the Content-Type to image/webp, use op=image_convert, and set format=jpeg.
The endpoint returns a job ID with status 202. Poll the job until it succeeds, fails or times out. The download link is short-lived. The page shows a ready cURL, Node and Python example below the tool.
- Quality is optional. It defaults to 80 and accepts 1 to 100.
- Authorize with your API key in the Authorization header as a Bearer token, or with x-api-key.
Privacy: what happens to your file
The uploaded image is used only to make the converted file. It is deleted as soon as the job ends, whether the job succeeds or fails.
In the free web tool, the converted file is deleted after 10 minutes. No history is kept, and download links are short-lived. Only upload pictures you have the right to use, as set out in the Acceptable Use Policy.

Questions
Can I convert WebP to JPG for free?
Yes. The web tool is free and does not need an account. Anonymous use needs a human check (Cloudflare Turnstile), and signed-in users skip it and use credits. No watermark is added. You can change WebP to JPG as often as the daily limit allows.
What happens to transparency when I convert WebP to JPG?
Transparent areas are filled with a background colour, because JPEG cannot store transparency. The default is white (#ffffff), and you can change it. If you need to keep transparency, use the WebP to PNG page.
Is a JPG smaller than a WebP?
Not usually. In our tests a JPG was often a bit larger than the WebP it came from, but much smaller than a PNG of the same picture. Results vary with the picture, so test your own file.
What quality should I use?
Start with the default of 80 for most pictures. Lower numbers give smaller files with more visible loss, and higher numbers keep more detail but make larger files.
Is WebP to JPG lossless?
No. JPEG is a lossy format, so saving as JPG removes some detail. A WebP that was already lossy has lost some detail before you convert it.
Will the image get smaller in pixels?
No. The picture is never resized or cropped, so the JPG has the same width and height in pixels as the WebP. Only the file size changes.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. They are the same format. The tool lists it as JPEG, and the downloaded file has the .jpg extension. Converting WebP to JPEG works the same way.
Why do some sites and programs refuse WebP files?
Some older software, old email clients and some upload forms do not accept WebP. PNG and JPEG have deeper historical support. MDN lists Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari 14 or later as supporting WebP.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, so the JPG is a still image and the animation is lost.
How big can the WebP file be?
The free web tool accepts up to 5 MB per image, and signed-in users can convert up to 10 MB. The result must also be 20 MB or less, or the job fails with an output too large message.
How long is my file kept?
The uploaded image is deleted as soon as the job ends. The converted file is deleted after 10 minutes in the free web tool, and no history is kept.
Can I convert WebP to JPG in code?
Yes. Send the raw image bytes to the image jobs endpoint with op=image_convert and format=jpeg, then poll the job until it finishes. The page shows a ready cURL, Node and Python example below the tool.
Need this in your app or in bulk?
This tool runs on the same platform as the API, so the same image is one HTTP request from your code. A free account includes 100 credits a month.
