Resize PDF
Resize PDF pages with this free online pdf resizer to change the paper size, such as A4 to Letter, or to set a custom size. This changes the page size, not the file size, and it does not lay the content out again. Fit can enlarge pages, and there is no preview before you run the job; the result panel shows the new file.
- This tool changes the page size only. It does not make the file smaller and it is not compression.
- Fit can enlarge small pages a lot. There is no preview; check the result panel after the job.
- Password-protected PDFs are refused. Use Unlock PDF first if you know the password.

Do this from your code
The same job as API requests: upload each PDF, start the job with the upload ids, then poll it. It needs an API key; a free account can create one.
curl -X POST "https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/uploads" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/pdf" \
--data-binary @input.pdf # returns {"upload_id": "UPLOAD_ID_1", ...}
curl -X POST "https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/pdf-jobs" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"op":"pdf_resize","params":{},"files":["UPLOAD_ID_1"]}'
# returns {"job_id": "...", "status": "queued"}; then poll:
curl https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/jobs/JOB_ID -H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY"Batches
The web tool works on one PDF at a time. Use the API for many files; each job takes one PDF.
Retention
Web-tool results are kept 10 minutes; free API results 1 day; Starter and Pro results 7 days; Business and Scale 30 days.
In one sentence
A free online tool that changes the page size of a PDF to A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal or a custom size by scaling each page to fit or by keeping the content at its size; it changes the paper size, not the file size.
Key facts
- Input: one PDF up to 10 MB without an account (50 MB signed in), up to 100 pages (500 signed in); password-protected PDFs are refused.
- Settings: the new size (A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, or a custom width and height in millimeters, inches or points, each side 36 to 14,400 points), the orientation for the preset sizes, Fit (scale and center, pages can be enlarged) or Extend (keep the size, add white margins or cut off), and the pages to resize; the result is resized.pdf with the same pages.
- Only the page geometry changes: the content is not laid out again, text stays text, links move with the content, and bookmarks that point to a spot on a page can end up a little off; the file size does not shrink.
- In our test a generated 6 page A4 PDF of 51 KB became 6 Letter pages of 612 x 792 pt (scale about 0.94, 42 KB) with Fit, and a 100 x 150 mm page in a 7 page PDF was enlarged by about 1.98 times when resized to A4; results vary with the file.
- API: POST the PDF to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/uploads, then POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/pdf-jobs with op pdf_resize, size (and width, height, unit for custom), mode and the upload id, and poll GET /v1/jobs/:id.
- Free without an account: 20 PDF jobs per day per visitor, no watermark. Signed in, each job costs 1 credit, plus 1 credit for each started 20 MB of result beyond the first 20 MB (100 free credits every month).
- Files are deleted automatically: 10 minutes after conversion without an account, 1 day with a free account.
How it works
- Upload your PDF. Only upload files you have the right to use.
- Choose a "New page size": A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, or Custom size.
- Pick an orientation and "How the content fits". Leave the defaults if you are not sure.
- Optionally enter "Pages to resize", or leave it empty for all pages.
- Run the job and download resized.pdf from the result panel.
Example output
How to resize a PDF
Resize PDF pages in three steps: upload the file, choose the new size, and run the job. The tool returns a new PDF named resized.pdf with the same number of pages in the same order. Your original file is not changed.
The file is processed on our server. Use the result panel to check the new sizes before you use the file. Use it to change pdf page size without editing each page.
Resize PDF changes the page size, not the file size
A pdf resize changes the paper size of each page. It does not change how big the file is on disk. If you need a smaller file, this tool is not the right one.
In our test, a 6 page A4 PDF of 51 KB became a 42 KB file after resizing to Letter. Sizes vary with the file, and measurements were made on generated test files, not real documents. File size is not a goal of this tool.
Standard sizes: A4, A3, A5, Letter and Legal
The preset sizes are A4 (595.28 x 841.89 pt), A3 (841.89 x 1190.55 pt), A5 (419.53 x 595.28 pt), Letter (612 x 792 pt) and Legal (612 x 1008 pt). Points are the unit used inside the PDF; 1 inch is 72 points.
To resize pdf to A4, choose the A4 preset and keep the default settings. A4 is also the default size in the tool.
Custom size in millimeters, inches or points
Choose Custom size to enter your own Width and Height. Pick millimeters, inches or points as the Unit. Each side must be between 36 and 14,400 points, which is about 12.7 mm to 5080 mm, and a custom size is used exactly as you give it.
For example, a custom 8 x 10 inch size gives pages of 576 x 720 pt. A custom 148 x 210 mm size gives 419.53 x 595.28 pt. Check the sizes in the result panel after the job.
Fit or extend
"Fit" scales each page to the new size and centers it. It keeps the shape of the page, so a different page shape leaves white space at the sides or at the top and bottom. A small page can be enlarged.
"Extend" keeps the original size and centers the page. A bigger new page gets white margins, and on a smaller page, what does not fit is cut off.
Orientation and PDFs with different page sizes
For preset sizes, "Keep each page as it is" is the default, so a landscape page stays landscape. You can also choose Portrait or Landscape for all pages. Orientation does not apply to custom sizes.
If your PDF mixes page sizes, every page is changed to the new size you choose. Fit can make a small page much larger. In our test, a 100 x 150 mm page was almost doubled when resized to A4 with Fit.
Resize only some pages
Leave "Pages to resize" empty to change every page. To change only some pages, enter numbers or ranges such as 1-3,5. The other pages stay exactly as they are.
Page numbers start at 1. A page number past the last page makes the job fail, and your credits are returned.
What stays the same: text, links and form fields
The content is not reflowed. Text does not wrap again to the new width; the page is scaled or moved as a block, and the text stays text. Links keep their place with the content.
Some details can shift. Bookmarks and links that point to a spot on a page can end up a little off the spot, but they still point to the right page. Form fields are kept, but their text size does not scale with the page.
Limits: size, pages and credits
The free web tool takes one PDF of up to 10 MB without an account, and up to 50 MB when you are signed in. A PDF can have up to 100 pages without an account, and up to 500 pages when signed in. The free web tool allows 20 PDF jobs per day per visitor, shared with the other PDF tools.
Signed-in jobs cost 1 credit, plus 1 credit for each started 20 MB of the result beyond the first 20 MB. Failed and timed-out jobs are refunded in full. The web tool gives a signed-in job 60 seconds and an anonymous job 30 seconds.
Resize PDF from code
Upload the file first with a POST to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/uploads. Send the raw bytes with Content-Type application/pdf; one file per request. The answer includes an upload_id.
Then POST to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/pdf-jobs with JSON that includes op pdf_resize, your params, and files set to the upload_id. Poll GET /v1/jobs/:id until the job succeeds, fails or times out. The download_url is a short-lived signed link. The page shows a ready cURL, Node and Python example built from your settings. Errors include 422 not_a_pdf and 404 upload_not_found; a failed job can return bad_params, encrypted_pdf or page_out_of_range.
Questions
Can I resize a PDF for free?
Yes, the free web tool lets you resize PDFs without an account, within the daily limits shown on the page.
How do I resize a PDF?
Upload the PDF, choose a new page size, and run the job. Then download resized.pdf from the result panel.
How do I change the page size of a PDF?
Pick the new size under "New page size", such as A4, Letter or Custom size, and run the job. The page size changes; the content is scaled or centered to fit.
How do I resize a PDF to A4?
Choose the A4 preset under "New page size". A4 is 595.28 x 841.89 pt, and it is the default setting.
Does resizing make the file smaller?
No. Resizing changes the page size, not the file size, and it is not compression. In our test the file went from 51 KB to 42 KB, but results vary with the file.
Why did my content get smaller or bigger?
Fit scales each page so the whole page fits the new size. Going to a smaller size shrinks the page, and a small page can be enlarged a lot.
What is the difference between Fit and Extend?
Fit scales the page to the new size and centers it. Extend keeps the original size, adds white margins on a bigger page, and cuts off what does not fit on a smaller page.
Does the text stay text after resizing?
Yes. The text stays text, but it is not reflowed to the new width. The whole page is scaled or moved as a block.
Can I resize a password-protected PDF?
No. Password-protected PDFs are refused. If you know the password, use Unlock PDF first, then resize the unlocked file.
Can I resize a PDF in my own code?
Yes. Use the API with op pdf_resize, upload the file first, and poll the job until it finishes. The page shows ready cURL, Node and Python examples.
Need this in your app or in bulk?
This tool runs on the same platform as the API, so the same merge, split or rotate is two HTTP requests from your code: upload each PDF, then start the job. A free account includes 100 credits a month.
