GIF Cropper: Crop Animated GIF Files Online
The GIF Cropper cuts each frame of an animated GIF down to the area you keep. Every frame is cut with the same box, so the frame count, the timing and the loop stay the same. You can use it without an account, and it handles one file at a time.
- A box that goes outside the frame is refused in Pixels mode. The tool does not shrink it for you.
- The cropper does not change the timing, the frame count or the loop. To cut time, use the GIF Trimmer.
- Sizes and times in this guide come from a generated test animation, not real footage. Your results will vary with the file.
Drop an image here
PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or TIFF, up to 5 MB
Every frame is cut to the same box. The pixels inside the box are copied as they are; only the final GIF or WebP encoding can change the colours.
A GIF has at most 256 colours, and each pixel is fully transparent or fully opaque. The frames are decoded, edited and encoded again, so a GIF with many colours can look a little different. WebP output is lossy; use the quality slider.

Your GIF will appear here.
The free web tool takes images up to 5 MB, 30 per day. Signed in, the limit is 10 MB.
Retention: web-tool results are deleted after 10 minutes and no history is kept. API results are kept 1 day on the free plan and 7 days on Starter and Pro (30 days on Business and Scale).
No account needed
30 images per day for free, no watermark.
Edited frame by frame
The frames are decoded once, edited and encoded once. The original file is not changed, and the upload is deleted when the job ends.
Deleted automatically
Web tool results are removed after 10 minutes.
Privacy: what you submit is used only to make this file. The working copy is deleted when the job ends, the result after 10 minutes. See the privacy policy.
Do this from your code
The same request, built from the input and options above. Create an account to get an API key.
curl -X POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"html":"","output":"pdf","options":{}}'
# returns {"job_id": "...", "status": "queued"}; then poll:
curl https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/jobs/JOB_ID -H "Authorization: Bearer $AIIPWORLD_API_KEY"Batches
The web tool handles 1 image at a time. The API takes one request per image, so you can script as many as your plan allows.
Retention
Web-tool results are kept 10 minutes; free API results 1 day; Starter and Pro results 7 days; Business and Scale 30 days. The web tool allows 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor.
In one sentence
A free online tool that crops an animated GIF or WebP to a rectangle you draw on the preview or type in pixels or percent, keeping every frame, delay and the loop count.
Key facts
- Input: an animated GIF or WebP, up to 5 MB in the free tool and 10 MB when signed in, and up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096) per frame; the type is read from the file content.
- Output: a GIF (or animated WebP) cut to the same box on every frame; the box must lie inside the frame, and a box that goes outside is refused rather than shrunk.
- Animation limits: up to 300 frames and 64 MP in total when signed in, 100 frames and 16 MP without an account.
- In our test a generated 24-frame GIF of 480 x 360 px and 118 KB became a 240 x 240 px GIF of 41 KB with the same frames and 1.4 s; the test animation was generated by our scripts and results vary.
- The upload is deleted when the job ends and the result after 10 minutes; signed-in users pay 1 credit per file plus 1 credit for each started 10 MP of frames beyond the first 10 MP.
- Free without an account: up to 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor, no watermark. Signed in, each render costs 1 credit (100 free credits every month).
- Files are deleted automatically: 10 minutes after conversion without an account, 1 day with a free account.
- Developers can run the same render with POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/render and an API key (see the API docs page).
How it works
- Upload one GIF or animated WebP file. The browser shows a preview and counts the frames.
- Draw the crop box on the preview, or type the numbers for Left, Top, Width and Height.
- Choose Pixels or Percent, and check the summary line that says what is kept.
- Under "Save as", keep Same as the original, or pick GIF or Animated WebP.
- Click "Crop GIF" and download the result before the retention period ends.

How to use the GIF Cropper
The GIF Cropper is for removing the parts of an animation you do not need. You pick the area to keep, and the tool cuts that area out of every frame. The steps are short, and the settings are in the tool above this text. Anonymous use needs a human check (Cloudflare Turnstile). Signed-in users skip the check and use credits. Read the notes next to the tool before you start, because they list the limits that apply to your file.
What this GIF cropper does
This GIF cropper keeps a rectangle of each frame and drops the pixels outside it. The pixels inside the box are copied as they are. The result has the same number of frames, the same delay for each frame and the same loop count as your file. The tool does not round or circle-crop the picture, and it does not use fixed aspect-ratio presets. It does not resize the picture, add text, or rotate it. For a new pixel size, use the Resize GIF page. For a smaller file, use the Compress GIF page.
Draw the crop box, or type the numbers
You can set the crop in two ways. Drag on the preview to draw the area to keep, drag the box to move it, and drag a corner to resize it. You can also type numbers in the Left (x), Top (y), Width and Height boxes. The summary line tells you what will be kept. For example, it may read "Keeps W x H px of the SW x SH px frame, starting X px from the left and Y px from the top." Check that line before you click the button. The crop box starts empty, so you must draw it or enter values first.
Pixels or percent
In Pixels mode, x, y, width and height are whole pixels. They are measured from the top-left corner of the frame. The box must lie fully inside the frame, and a box that goes outside is refused. For example, a box at x 400 with a width of 200 on a 480 px frame was refused in our test. In Percent mode, the same four values are a percent of the frame width and height. The tool turns them into pixels and rounds the result. In our test, x 25, y 16.67, width 50 and height 66.67 gave the same 240 x 240 px result as the pixel crop at x 120, y 60.
Crop animated GIF files: frames, timing and loop
When you crop animated GIF files, each frame is cut with the same box. The frame count, the delay of each frame and the loop count do not change. A result that loops forever still loops forever after the crop. In our test, a generated animation of 480 x 360 px with 24 frames at 60 ms per frame (1.4 s) was cropped to 240 x 240 px at x 120, y 60. The result still had 24 frames, the same 1.4 s, and it loops forever. The result panel shows the new size and the animation details, so you can check them.
What happens to colours and file size
The pixels inside the box are copied without change. Only the final encoding can change colours. A GIF is written with at most 256 colours, using dithering, and each pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Cropping does not always make the file much smaller. In our test, the 480 x 360 px GIF was 118 KB. The 240 x 240 px crop was 41 KB, and a crop of the top half at 480 x 180 px was 50 KB. Your file size depends on the picture, so measure the result before you rely on it.
Save as GIF or animated WebP
Under "Save as", you can keep the original format, or choose GIF or Animated WebP. Animated WebP output is lossy and has a quality slider, with a default of 80. A GIF is written with 256 colours and dithering. In our test, the same crop saved as animated WebP was 11 KB, against 41 KB for the GIF. The WebP file lists 16 frames instead of 24, with the same playing time. The WebP encoder merged frames that were identical in the cropped area.
Transparency in a cropped GIF
If your GIF has transparent areas, the cropped result keeps them as transparent pixels. A GIF pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Partly transparent edges are not kept in a GIF result. Transparency depends on the final encoding, so check the preview of the result. If the edges of a transparent picture look wrong, try the animated WebP option and compare the two files.
Limits for animations
Limits for an animation are checked from the file header before decoding. The limits are frames, and total pixels: frame width x frame height x number of frames. Signed in, you can crop up to 300 frames and 64 MP in total. Without an account, the limit is 100 frames and 16 MP in total. Each single frame can be up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096). The base price is 1 credit per file. The base price includes 10 megapixels of animation, and each started 10 megapixels above that adds 1 credit. A job over a limit fails, and its credits are returned.
Which files the GIF Cropper accepts
The GIF Cropper accepts GIF and animated WebP files. A single-frame GIF also works. A PNG, JPG or other file is refused with a message that says so. The file type is read from the file content, not the file name, so a text or corrupt file renamed to .gif is refused as an unsupported image. Free use allows up to 5 MB per file, and up to 30 files per day for each visitor without an account. Signed-in users can upload up to 10 MB per file. Each frame can be up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096). A result larger than 20 MB fails with an "output too large" message, so you do not get a cut-off file.
GIF Cropper from code
You can run the same crop from code. Send a POST request to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/image-jobs with the raw file bytes as the body, not JSON or multipart. Set Content-Type to image/gif or image/webp. Authenticate with Authorization: Bearer <API key> or x-api-key. Add op=gif_edit and action=crop to the query string, along with the crop parameters listed in the docs. The API returns 202 with a job_id. Poll GET /v1/jobs/:id until the job succeeds or fails, then download the result from the short-lived download_url. For animations, send timeout_sec=60, which is the maximum. Below the tool, the page shows a ready cURL, Node and Python example that follows your settings. The full reference is at /docs/#image-jobs.
Privacy: what happens to your file
Your file is sent to our server, because it is not edited in the browser. The server uses sharp, which is built on libvips. This is ordinary image processing, not artificial intelligence. The uploaded file is used only to make the result and is deleted as soon as the job ends, whether it succeeds or fails. In the free web tool, the result is deleted after 10 minutes. No history of your jobs is kept. Download links are short-lived, so save the file when it is ready. You must have the right to use what you upload, as set out in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Questions
Can I crop a GIF for free?
Yes, you can use the GIF Cropper without an account, within the daily limit of 30 files per visitor. Anonymous use needs a human check. Signed-in use is charged in credits.
Does a cropped GIF still animate?
Yes. Every frame is cut with the same box, so the animation keeps its frame count, delay and loop. The result panel shows the frames, the playing time and the loop.
How do I crop a GIF to an exact size?
Choose Pixels mode and type the Width and Height you need. Then set Left and Top so the box lies fully inside the frame. Check the summary line before you click "Crop GIF".
Can I crop a GIF to a circle?
No. The tool crops to a rectangle. It has no round or circle crop, no aspect-ratio presets and no shape options.
What is the difference between cropping and resizing a GIF?
Cropping keeps part of the frame and drops the rest, so the pixels inside the box are unchanged. Resizing changes the pixel size of the whole picture. Use the Resize GIF page for that.
Why is the cropped GIF not much smaller in KB?
File size depends on what is left in the picture and how the GIF is encoded. In our test, a 480 x 360 px GIF of 118 KB became 41 KB when cropped to 240 x 240 px. Results vary with the file.
Can I crop an animated WebP?
Yes. Animated WebP files are accepted for cropping. You can save the result as GIF or as Animated WebP, using the quality setting for WebP.
Can I crop only some frames?
No. The crop applies the same box to every frame, and the frame count stays the same. To cut the time of an animation, use the GIF Trimmer page.
What happens if my box goes outside the picture?
In Pixels mode, the box is refused with a message that names the size problem. The tool does not shrink the box for you. Move or resize the box so it lies fully inside the frame.
Why was my GIF refused as too long or too large?
Your file may be over a limit. The limits are 5 MB per file for free use, 10 MB for signed-in use, 100 frames and 16 MP in total without an account, or 300 frames and 64 MP signed in. A GIF cut off before its end marker is also refused.
How long is my file kept?
The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job ends. In the free web tool, the result is deleted after 10 minutes. No history is kept, and download links are short-lived.
Can I crop GIF files in code?
Yes. Send a POST request to the image-jobs endpoint with op=gif_edit and action=crop in the query string. The API returns a job ID that you poll until the job finishes. The reference is at /docs/#image-jobs.
Need this in your app or in bulk?
This tool runs on the same platform as the API, so the same image is one HTTP request from your code. A free account includes 100 credits a month.
