# Crop PNG Online > A free online tool that crops a PNG (or JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or TIFF) to a box you draw or type, or to a centered shape such as 1:1 or 16:9, copying the pixels unchanged. Crop PNG files with this free online PNG cropper and keep only the part of the picture you need. You can draw the box, type exact pixels, or center a crop by shape. The pixels inside the box are copied as they are, and PNG keeps any transparency. ## Key facts - Input: one picture up to 5 MB in the free tool and 10 MB when signed in, and up to 16 MP (4096 x 4096); animated GIF and WebP are cropped frame by frame within the animation limits. - Settings: a box (drag it on the preview or type x, y, width and height in pixels), an optional fixed shape, or a centered crop by shape; save as the same type, PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF. - A box outside the picture is refused, not shrunk; in our test a box x 100, y 80, 400 x 300 gave a 400 x 300 px PNG, and a centered 16:9 crop of an 800 x 560 px picture gave 800 x 450 px. - The upload is deleted when the job ends and the result after 10 minutes; signed-in users pay 1 credit per file plus 1 credit for each started 5 MB of result beyond the first 5 MB and, for an animation, 1 credit for each started 10 MP of frames beyond the first 10 MP. - Free without an account: up to 10 conversions per minute and 50 per day per visitor, no watermark. Signed in, each render costs 1 credit (100 free credits every month). - Files are deleted automatically: 10 minutes after conversion without an account, 1 day with a free account. - Developers can run the same job with POST https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/image-jobs?op=image_edit (the image as the request body, settings in the query string) and an API key (see the API docs page). ## How it works 1. Upload one PNG, or another supported picture, using the upload area above. 2. Choose "Draw or type a box" to set the area by hand, or "Centered, by shape (ratio)" to let the tool center the crop. 3. Set the shape in "Keep the box shape" if you need a fixed ratio, or leave it on Free. 4. Choose "Save as" and, for JPEG or WebP, set the quality. 5. Click "Crop PNG" and check the result panel before you download. ## How to Crop a PNG This PNG crop tool cuts the area you choose. Upload your PNG, choose how you want to set the area, and click "Crop PNG". The tool cuts out the box you chose and gives you a new file. Your original file is not changed. The result panel shows the cropped picture, the real area that was cut (x, y, width and height), the size, and the credits used. Check these numbers before you download. They tell you exactly what was kept. ## Crop PNG by Drawing the Box or Typing Numbers Choose "Draw or type a box" to work on the preview. Drag on the preview to draw the area to keep, drag the box to move it, and drag a corner to resize it. If you need an exact crop, type Left (x), Top (y), Width and Height in pixels of the original picture. In our test, a box at x 100, y 80 with a size of 400 x 300 gave a 400 x 300 px PNG of 6 KB, with the pixels of the box unchanged. ## Keep a Shape Such as 1:1 or 16:9 Use "Keep the box shape" to fix the ratio of the box you draw. Choose Free for any shape, or pick 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16 or 4:5. The shape stays fixed while you resize the box. This is useful when a layout needs a square or a widescreen frame. The box still has to lie inside the picture. ## Crop PNG to a Centered Shape Choose "Centered, by shape (ratio)" when you want the tool to find the crop for you. Pick 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16 or 4:5, or type another shape such as 16:10. The tool keeps the largest centered rectangle of that shape. In our test on an 800 x 560 px PNG, a centered 16:9 crop gave 800 x 450 px, starting 55 px from the top. A centered 1:1 crop gave 560 x 560 px, starting 120 px from the left. Your numbers will differ with the picture size. ## Transparency and Quality Are Kept A crop does not add transparent areas. A transparent PNG stays transparent after the crop, and PNG keeps every pixel. The picture is not resized or resampled. JPEG and WebP are lossy, so the quality setting affects them. If you save as JPEG, transparent areas are filled with the background color, which is white unless you change it. Use PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency. ## A Box Outside the Picture Is Refused The box must lie inside the picture. If it goes past an edge, the tool refuses the job and tells you what to fix. It does not shrink the box for you. The page also checks the box before the upload. In our test, a box at x 700 with a width of 300 on an 800 px wide picture failed with a message that the crop is wider than the 800 px image. ## Other File Types The tool crops PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF files. PNG is the main use. SVG, HEIC and camera RAW files are not accepted. A TIFF cannot be shown in the preview, so for a TIFF you type the numbers yourself. For an animated GIF or WebP, every frame is cropped to the same box and the animation is kept when the output is GIF or WebP. For related edits you can use the Circle Crop Image, Rotate Image, Flip Image, Compress PNG or GIF Cropper tools. ## Limits: Size and Pixels Each picture is limited to 16 MP (4096 x 4096) (width x height), checked before the picture is opened. Without an account you can upload up to 5 MB per picture, and signed in you can upload up to 10 MB. You can run 30 jobs per day per visitor without an account. The result can be up to 20 MB. A large photo saved as PNG can pass that size. If it does, the job fails with output_limit and the credits are refunded, so save as JPEG or WebP instead. ## What to Check in the Result Look at the cropped picture first. Then read the real area that was cut, the x, y, width and height values, and compare them with what you wanted. Also check the size and the notes in the result panel. If the output is JPEG and the picture had transparency, the panel says that the background color was used. ## Crop a PNG From Code Send a POST request to https://api.aiipworld.com/v1/image-jobs?op=image_edit&action=crop with the raw picture bytes as the body, not JSON or multipart. Set Content-Type to image/png, image/jpeg, image/webp, image/gif, image/avif, image/bmp or image/tiff. Send your API key as Authorization: Bearer `` or in the x-api-key header. The crop action takes its box in pixels (x, y, width, height), or in percent with unit=percent, where each value is from 0 to 100 and x + width and y + height are at most 100. You can also send aspect, such as 1:1 or 16:9, for the largest centered crop. Do not mix aspect with a box in one request. The response is 202 with a job_id. Poll GET /v1/jobs/:id, then download the result from download_url, which is a short-lived signed link. The page shows a ready cURL, Node and Python example built from your settings. The errors are 400 invalid_params, 400 unsupported_image, 413 file_too_large, 402 insufficient_credits and 429 rate limited. ## Privacy: What Happens to Your Picture Your file is sent to our server, and the work is done there. The uploaded file is used only to make the result. The working copy of the upload is deleted as soon as the job ends, whether it succeeds or fails. The result is deleted after 10 minutes in the free web tool, and no history is kept. Download links are short-lived. Camera and location tags are not written to the result. You must have the right to use the picture you upload, as set out in our Acceptable Use Policy. ## Questions ### Can I crop a PNG for free?
